Recently, our Directors have been taking part in the SULA programme with the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, a process designed to challenge thinking, encourage growth, and strengthen leadership.

As part of this journey, it prompted an important question: What do we truly stand for as a business today?

While our history speaks for itself, we wanted to take the time to reflect, refine, and clearly define the values that will guide us into the future. This wasn’t about starting from scratch, it was about identifying the principles that already exist within our team and making them clear, consistent, and meaningful.

Following discussions across the leadership team and input from our wider team, we defined five core values that represent Heathline Commercials today: Teamwork, Respect, Integrity, Customer Focus and Excellence - TRICE.

National Apprenticeship Week is a time to recognise the value apprentices bring to businesses across the UK – and here at Heathline Commercials, it’s something we’re especially proud of.

As a family-run business with more than 50 years of experience supporting commercial vehicle operators across Northumberland and the wider North East , we understand that the future of our industry depends on developing skilled, knowledgeable and passionate people. Apprenticeships are at the heart of that commitment.

Investing in the Next Generation

In September, we invested in our newest HGV apprentice, Kyle Young. Kyle has joined the team at an exciting time for the business, and we’re delighted to be supporting him as he begins his journey towards becoming a qualified HGV Technician. Apprenticeships provide hands-on experience alongside structured learning, giving young people the opportunity to build real careers in the commercial vehicle sector.

Creating Clear Career Pathways

One of the most rewarding aspects of apprenticeships is seeing where they can lead.

Dean Dodd began his career as an apprentice Driver with our sister company, Moody Logistics. Through dedication and hard work, Dean is now continuing his development with Heathline and is on track to qualify as an HGV Vehicle Technician this year.

Similarly, Steven Cartwright also started as an apprentice Driver with Moody Logistics and is now following a similar path, progressing his career within the group. It’s fantastic to see both Dean and Steven developing their skills and building long-term futures within our businesses.

Their journeys highlight the strength of our wider group and the opportunities available across Heathline Commercials and our sister companies.

We’re also incredibly proud of Matt Davies and Craig Summers, both of whom began their careers with us as apprentices and are now valued HGV Technicians within the business. Their progression is a testament to the quality of training, mentoring and support we provide.

A special mention must go to Craig, who was named Apprentice of the Year at the IRTE Awards in October 2025. This recognition is thoroughly deserved and reflects his technical ability, commitment and professionalism. As a family-run business, people have always been at the heart of Heathline commercials. Our recent Company Awards Night was a proud moment for us all, bringing the whole team together to recognise the commitment, loyalty and hard work that keeps our business moving forward every day.

The evening celebrated colleagues from across the company who consistently go above and beyond. To ensure awards reflected ongoing dedication, all winners had completed a minimum of one year’s service with Heathline commercials or our sister companies Moody Logistics & MCR Services.

One of the most important parts of the evening was recognising long service. Loyalty and experience are something we truly value, and it was a privilege to celebrate colleagues who have dedicated so many years to the business:

Speed n’ Style wins Bedlington Academy’s ‘Race to the Line’ STEM Challenge, Sponsored by Heathline

A team of budding engineers from Bedlington Academy took the chequered flag in an exciting STEM challenge that saw Year 7 students design, build and race their own rocket-powered cars as part of the national Race to the Line competition.

Sponsored by Heathline Commercials, part of our family-run Moody Group, the initiative gave 170 students the chance to put science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) into action by creating high-speed vehicles from bio-compostable foam blocks before launching them down a custom track.

Joanna Lamb, Head of School, said: “We are incredibly proud of Speed n’ Style for their achievements. This event not only showcased their creativity and teamwork but also gave all our Year 7 students a unique, hands-on experience of applying STEM in a real-world context. Opportunities like this help spark enthusiasm and confidence in subjects that are vital to the future.”

Gavin Cape, Engineering Director of Heathline Commercials, said “It’s fantastic to see this generation of students being inspired by STEM. It’s a great way to show young people how such skills open doors to exciting careers.

“We were impressed by the innovation and teamwork on display. Projects like this are vital to sparking an early interest in engineering and science, showing students what’s possible with curiosity, creativity and collaboration.”

The Bedlington event also held a special significance for Heathline Commercials, as Caroline Moody, Managing Director of Moody Group, and her father, and former Chairman, Alan Moody, are both former pupils of the school, then known as Bedlington High School.

Race to the Line is a UK-wide initiative run by The Learning Partnership, designed to bring STEM learning to life and foster long-term links between schools and local employers. Regional finalists from across the country will now compete for a chance to make it to the national finals.

The winning team, named Speed n’ Style and made up of Sophie, Jayme, Evie and Lily, together with the second and third placed teams visited the commercial vehicle servicing and repair specialist’s headquarters in Cramlington to see how engineering principles are applied in the real world, and to explore the exciting career opportunities available in the automotive and commercial transport sectors.

As part of the challenge, the teams used CO₂ capsules for propulsion, allowing for safe indoor testing. They were encouraged to apply aerodynamic enhancements such as fairings and stabilisers, and to fabricate components like wheels and axles using tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters.

We've been servicing businesses and the general public across Northumberland for over 40 years now, with a wealth of experience in vehicle servicing, tachograph calibration and minor paint repairs to name just a few, but do you know where our experience stems from and how Heathline Commercials was established.

Heathline commenced trading in 1976 and was the brain child of founder Alan Moody. Alan, who took over Moody Transport and Logistics (our sister company) from his father, decided creating a workshop on site would help in the servicing of all Moody's trucks. Eliminating the need to outsource a third party company and saving them money in the long run. The business flourished from servicing Moody Trucks, to becoming a fully-fledged workshop managing vehicles of all sizes from all over the North East; providing maintenance and servicing requirements for owner drivers and businesses, including small or medium sized fleets.

Fast forward to 2025, 49 years later, and Heathline has continued to flourish and grow into an outstanding North East commercial vehicle servicing facility. Offering a huge range of services to both customers old and new. We are even so renowned for our tachograph knowledge and skills, that our customers travel far and wide to visit our site in Cramlington.

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025

There's a misconception that apprenticeships are just for school leavers, however this couldn't be further from the truth. In fact there's no age limit, which creates a great opportunity for anyone looking to reskill or seeking a career change.

This week we're celebrating National Apprenticeship Week. A week which shows the value that apprentices bring to the business and the value that they can create for those who choose that path.

This year's theme is 'Skills for Life' and it is something we have experience of here at Heathline, as many of our team begin their journey as labourer's, progressing in their skill set to undertake their Level 3 HGV Technician Apprenticeship.

Here at Heathline, along with our sister companies, Moody Logistics and MCR , we're proving that apprenticeships open doors to new opportunities at any stage of life.

Within our team, we can showcase some fantastic example of how apprenticeships have helped to upskill and allow the team to develop their careers.

Dean Dodd is the perfect example that there's no time limit on continuing to learn and that the learning never stops. He started his apprenticeship journey with our sister company, Moody Logistics, taking on their internal driver apprenticeship programme. Later swapping the wheel, for a mechanics toolkit. He's now embarked on his Level 3 HGV Technician apprenticeship which when completed will see him as a fully qualified HGV Technician within our Heathline team.

Craig Summers is also proof that apprenticeships can be for anyone. Craig Summers came to us with 20 years of experience as a car mechanic before fast-tracking his training to become a fully fledged HGV Technician in just 17 months.

Our team are testament to the 'skills for life' theme of this years National Apprenticeship week, showing it's never too late to stop learning and you can continue to develop skills for a lifetime.
